Six Basilian Novices Profess Their First Vows in Mexico

Six Newly Professed Scholastics are Joined by the Basilian Community in Mexico

On Saturday, July 17, six Basilian novices concluded their novitiate year with their first profession of religious vows. Jesús Cisneros Monroy, CSB, Alejandro García Cárdenas, CSB, César Enrique Hernández Aguilar, CSB, Baruc Abraham Juárez Campos, CSB, Julio César Martínez Chávez, CSB, and Hugo Medina Iniesta, CSB professed their first vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience in San Lorenzo Parish in Tehuacán, Puebla, México.

The Mass was celebrated by Father John Huber, CSB and concelebrated by Father René Espejel, CSB; Father Alejandro Estrada Pérez, CSB, pastor of San Lorenzo; Father Jess Owens, CSB; Father Beto Rojas, CSB; and Father Paul Walsh, CSB As delegate of the superior general, Father John Huber, CSB accepted the vows and Father Beto Rojas, CSB presented the novices for profession and preached. In attendance were family members for each of newly professed; the Basilian community in Mexico, including priests and men in formation; and parishioners of San Lorenzo, which includes seven chapels. Each novice served at one of these chapels during the second half of his novitiate year.

The novices they spent a year at Casa San Felipe in Tehuacán with Father Rojas, director of novices, and Father Owens, assistant director of novices. After participating in the Latin-American Summit in June, the novices went on an 8-day retreat held at the Jesuit Retreat Center in Puente Grande Jalisco to prepare for their profession. As they advance to the next stage in their formation journey, they will move to the Basilian scholasticate in Mexico City where they will study philosophy or theology.

Father John Huber, CSB accepted the vows and Father Beto Rojas, CSB presented the novices for profession and preached.
