When the chapel and sacristies of the Cardinal Flahiff Basilian Centre were being emptied of their contents this past summer, Father Jefferson M. Thompson, CSB learned that two items available for the taking were of special interest to him: a magnificent monstrance and a first-class relic of Pope St. Pius X.
He immediately jumped on this opportunity and requested that the articles be shipped to North Vancouver. After some refurbishment and a little polishing, both pieces are in full use now in St. Pius X Parish where Father Jeff serves as Pastor. He added an engraved base to the monstrance to indicate its Basilian heritage.
Fascinatingly, he doesn’t remember ever seeing these two items in use during his seminary years in the CFBC (1988-91).
