Bishop Robert Kasun, CSB Warmly Welcomed by Archdiocese of Toronto
October 7, 2016

“How do you like my new hat?” Bishop Robert Kasun, CSB asked the people of the Archdiocese of Toronto as he adjusted his mitre, opening his homily for the Mass of Welcome.
The greeting was met with applause as the Archdiocese officially welcomed Bishop Kasun back to Toronto, Ontario through a Mass held at St. Michael’s Cathedral Basilica in the morning of Thursday, October 6. The Mass was attended by several members of the clergy from around the Diocese, including his Basilian brothers.
Pope Francis appointed Father Kasun as Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Toronto on June 17 and the Episcopal Ordination took place on September 12 at St. Joseph’s Basilica in Edmonton, Alberta.
Bishop Kasun earned his Master of Divinity from St. Michael’s College and studied education at the University of Toronto. He taught at St. Michael’s College School in Toronto from 1980-1987. Since 2009, he has served as pastor of the inner-city Edmonton parishes of St. Alphonsus and St. Clare, where he was known as “Father Bob” and made his mark as a passionate advocate for and friend of the lower-income and immigrant communities.
As Auxiliary Bishop, Bishop Kasun will oversee care of the pastoral needs of the Central Pastoral Region in the Archdiocese of Toronto.
Following the mass, Bishop Kasun greeted parishioners outside the recently restored Cathedral Basilica.
