Basilians Celebrate 30 Years in Colombia
July 10, 2017

The Basilian community in Colombia gathered in Cali, Colombia to mark 30 years of Basilian ministry in the country. Basilian Fathers and scholastics participated in a retreat that focused on recognizing the realities of the Congregation within a post-conflict country. The retreat was led by Fathers Francisco Amico CSB, Rafael Lopera, CSB, and Roberto Seguín, CSB, who were members of the first Basilian community in Colombia.
In 1987, the Basilian Fathers undertook their mission in Colombia. Initially their work was centered in Nuestra Señora de la Asunción, a parish in a poor neighbourhood of Cali. Today the ministry of Basilians in Colombia has expanded to three cities and includes a school, two parishes (Cali and Medellín), a chapel (Santa Marta – Taganga), and a scholasticate.
