St. John Fisher Aids Basilian Institutions Affected by Hurricane Harvey
September 11, 2017

St. John Fisher College community has committed to helping their brothers and sisters at the Basilian institutions in Houston, Texas. Students, faculty and staff at both St. Thomas High School and the University of St. Thomas were impacted by Hurricane Harvey. In addition to prayers for those affected by the floods and assisting in relief efforts, St. John Fisher College has launched two initiatives to aid each of these institutions.
The first effort will help a physics teacher at St. Thomas High School and his family get back on their feet. The family barely survived Hurricane Katrina, and are staying with relatives after their home was damaged by Hurricane Harvey. The goal of the St. John Fisher’s sponsorship is to provide them with their own place while the repairs are made to their home.
Members of the St. John Fisher community are also being invited to contribute to the University of St. Thomas’ #CeltCare campaign, a Harvey Student Relief Fund established to directly support its students impacted by Harvey. One hundred percent of contributions to this fund will be used to help students remain in school and attain their education goals.
The St. John Fisher community is also considering longer term plans to aid in Hurricane Harvey relief efforts once the larger needs have been accessed.
