Surrounded by his Basilian brothers, newly ordained Auxiliary Bishop, Most Rev. Bob Kasun, CSB, committed to serve the people of the Archdiocese of Toronto. The Episcopal Ordination of Bishop-designate Kasun took place on Monday, September 12 at St. Joseph’s Basilica in Edmonton, Alberta. The Principal Consecrator was Toronto’s Archbishop, Thomas Cardinal Collins and Archbishop Michael Miller, CSB of Vancouver and Bishop Ronald Fabbro, CSB of London were the concelebrants. Many Basilians travelled to be a part of the occasion.
On June 17, Pope Francis appointed Father Kasun as Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Toronto. Father Kasun commented on the appointment from the Holy Father, “I have found my new appointment very difficult to understand and accept, but I will do my best, with the help of God’s grace, to serve the people in the Archdiocese of Toronto.”
Since 2009, he has served as pastor of the inner-city Edmonton parishes of St. Alphonsus and St. Clare, where he was known as “Father Bob” and made his mark as a passionate advocate for and friend of the lower-income and immigrant communities.
