September 13, 2024

Pat Daly, Principal of St. Michael’s College School explains the school’s renewed emphasis on meaningful service, and coaching character through sports.

This Wednesday, CP24 interviewed St. Michael’s College School students and staff, who were eager to share the school’s effort to build character through sports and service, coinciding with the school’s current strategic campaign of “Be the Good.”

Saint Michael’s College Has been a part of the Toronto Community since a way back 1852. The school kicked off its 173rd year this September, continuing it’s mission of educating young men in goodness discipline and knowledge, so they can lead lives of faith, character and service, playing a significant role in the community.

And this year, the school is placing a renewed emphasis on meaningful service, and coaching character through sports.

“Our focus is to challenge our students and staff to be the good here in school, be the good for their peers, be the good in the wider community, and be the good beyond our borders as well. Athletics can be transformative experience for students. Part of that is developing character. if we want to be successful athletes we need resilience, discipline, honesty, empathy, and love of competition. we believe athletics is a really great vehicle for our students to develop those character traits that will serve them well here and when they graduate from us and go into the world.” said Pat Daly, Principal of St. Michael’s College School.

During the interview, SMCS students had an opportunity to provide insight into the meaningful impact of sports on their character. One said: “I hope to take all the things I learned from being on the running team here and apply them further in the world.”
