Fr. Kevin Storey, CSB, made his first visit to Rio

Fr. Kevin Storey, CSB, made his first visit to Riohacha, Colombia, joining Fr. Mora CSB and Fr. Huber CSB to meet the four #basilians serving in the growing coastal city. With stops at Institución Educativa Eusebio Septimio Mari — home to over 1,500 students, Fr. Storey witnessed firsthand the incredible impact of the first intentionally intercultural Basilian house, with two priests from Mexico and two from Colombia.

Their presence is already making a meaningful impact in the school and local Church.

After completing his theological studies while also teaching at St Michael’s College School, 1954–55, Fr. Brian Higgins CSB (1926 – 2016, ordained 1954) began a 39-year career of high school teaching, coaching, administration and chaplaincy. In April 2012, St Michael’s College School inducted “Higgie” into the Order of St Michael. St Mary’s football field was named ‘Father Brian Higgins Field’ in 1975; and, in 1977, he was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Silver Jubilee Medal, given to individuals who had made a significant contribution to their fellow citizens, their community, or to Canada.

From Toronto to Windsor, Rochester to Colombia and Mexico, our communities gathered by candlelight to mourn the #Cross and rejoice in the empty tomb. We give thanks for the grace of #HolySaturday, as so many were welcomed into the #Church through the waters of #Baptism.

Despite his family’s objections – the idea of combining the #psychology and #priesthood, became strong enough to convince George Freemesser (1933-2004, ordained1965) to enter a seminary. In his final year he was accepted into the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, New York, where he was certified as a #psychiatrist. George settled into residence and private practice in St Basil’s College, Toronto, integrating spirituality and psychiatry, while also serving at Southdown Institute, aiding clergy suffering from mental illness.

Fr. Maurice Pierce (1930-2013, ordained 1957) life-long difficulty remembering names led to his calling many students, and confreres ‘Buddy.’ For that reason, many of them, in turn, called him ‘Buddy Moe.’ His generosity and, in many ways, innocence led confreres and friends to recall that Jesus referred to Nathaniel as “a man without guile,” commenting that Jesus could well have said the same thing of Moe.
