This recognition serves as a testament to Dr. Cappucci’s tireless efforts in fostering dialogue and understanding among different religious and cultural communities, something that is deeply aligned with Assumption University’s mission. As the university continues to thrive under his leadership, it carries forward the rich Basilian tradition of education rooted in Goodness, Discipline, and Knowledge—values that have shaped the institution since its founding.

Assumption University has a rich history deeply rooted in the Basilian mission of education and evangelization. Its origins trace back to the founding of Assumption College in 1857 by the Jesuits, following the growth of their parish, Our Lady of the Assumption, established in 1728. In 1870, the Basilian Fathers assumed administration of Assumption College in Windsor, Ontario, continuing its legacy of faith-based education.

Over the years, the university expanded its role, embracing a broader mission to educate individuals regardless of their background, while remaining firmly committed to its Catholic faith. Through the years, Assumption University has become known for fostering academic excellence, nurturing spiritual growth, and preparing its students to be compassionate leaders who contribute positively to society.

The Basilian Fathers, known for their contributions to education and their emphasis on forming students in faith, have shaped Assumption’s identity. The values of Goodness, Discipline, and Knowledge continue to guide both the university’s academic programs and the personal development of its students.

Dr. Cappucci’s achievement is part of a long legacy of Assumption leaders who have been recognized for their significant contributions to society. In 1953, Rev. Eugene Carlisle LeBel, CSB, former president of Assumption University, received a coronation medal in honor of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation, further cementing the university’s role as a vessel of Basilian education.

We extend a big congratulations to Dr. Cappucci for this remarkable accomplishment and for continuing to inspire others in the pursuit of positive change and unity.
