Paul English\u2019s, CSB Reflection On Divine Mercy Sunday \u2013 Houston, TX."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cMy Lord and My God\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This Second Sunday of Easter is \u201cDivine Mercy Sunday,\u201d a designation by Saint Pope John Paul II who himself was a living example of mercy.\u00a0 After recuperating \u2013 mostly \u2013 from being shot by a would-be assassin, then-Pope John Paul II arranged to sit down in a prison cell with Ali Agca, the gunman, and have a loving conversation, showing the man who attempted to take his life, a sort of self-giving mercy that changed not only Ali Agca\u2019s heart, but the hearts of many who learned of their encounter.<\/p>\n<p>On that day, Saint John Paul made himself a member of the family with Ali Agca.\u00a0 They became brothers one to another in an extraordinary way.\u00a0 Our God, repeatedly throughout the Hebrew Scriptures, says some version of, \u201cYou will be my people and I will be your God.\u201d\u00a0 This is not the declaration of a potentate who wishes to dominate a group of subjects; these are the tender words of joy that they are members, one of another: the same family.\u00a0 God, as it were, identifying with the people.\u00a0 And the people recognizing that God is theirs!<\/p>\n<p>It is from this beautiful place of belonging one to another that we can approach the God who, in Jesus Christ crucified, has already reached out to us.\u00a0 It is in this light, in this warmth, that we can confidently and happily know our freedom from the offenses that had become habits, and love again abundantly, as Christ does.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cMy Lord and My God\u201d This Second Sunday of Easter is \u201cDivine Mercy Sunday,\u201d a designation by Saint Pope John Paul II who himself was a living example of mercy.\u00a0 [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":282,"featured_media":11429,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_bbp_topic_count":0,"_bbp_reply_count":0,"_bbp_total_topic_count":0,"_bbp_total_reply_count":0,"_bbp_voice_count":0,"_bbp_anonymous_reply_count":0,"_bbp_topic_count_hidden":0,"_bbp_reply_count_hidden":0,"_bbp_forum_subforum_count":0,"_uag_custom_page_level_css":"","footnotes":""},"categories":[8,96,1],"tags":[],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v20.3 - https:\/\/yoast.com\/wordpress\/plugins\/seo\/ -->\n<title>\u201cThey are members, one of another: the same family.\u201d \u2013 Fr.
