{"id":366,"date":"2020-09-09T13:34:47","date_gmt":"2020-09-09T13:34:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/basilian.org\/?page_id=366"},"modified":"2025-10-15T11:57:38","modified_gmt":"2025-10-15T15:57:38","slug":"bnene","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/basilian.org\/en\/ministries\/bnene\/","title":{"rendered":"Basilian Network for Education and the New Evangelization"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Participants in the 2025 BNENE Summer Conference at St. Michael&#8217;s College School in Toronto, Ontario.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>In 2015, The Congregation of St. Basil established the Basilian Network for Education and the New Evangelization (BNENE) with the intention of engaging in ongoing formation on the Basilian approach to Catholic education in the schools carrying on the Basilian tradition.<\/p>\n<h2>Mission of BNENE<\/h2>\n<p>Prepare, inspire and empower every educator in a Basilian school to prepare young people for a faith-filled life of service, fidelity, success and love through solid formation of Basilian and Catholic principles.<\/p>\n<h2>Initiatives:<\/h2>\n<p>BNENE seeks to contribute to the New Evangelization, and specifically to Catholic Education as one of its integral components. We strive to teach Goodness, Discipline, and Knowledge through three initiatives:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The ongoing formation of school leaders, teachers, support staff and communities in the apostolate of Catholic Education;<\/li>\n<li>Teaching what the Church teaches with clarity and conviction (i.e., through thoughtful and prayerful reading of and reflection on key magisterial teachings on Catholic Education);<\/li>\n<li>Promoting the educational ministry of our schools by encouraging Basilian educators to share and collaborate with the other schools we serve.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>History<\/h2>\n<p>Both of BNENE\u2019s first directors, Fr. Mario D\u2019Souza CSB and Fr. John Huber, CSB, offered the faculty and staff of Basilian schools opportunities to come together in fraternity to focus on what it means to be Catholic educators, and engage in dialogue with one another. BNENE presentations have encompassed the Church\u2019s teaching on education and how all within the school are called to be a part of a distinctly Catholic community, infused with the Basilian charism.<\/p>\n<p>The inaugural BNENE conference, held at St. Michael\u2019s College School in the summer of 2015, brought together Basilian and lay faculty, staff, and administrators from Le Coll\u00e8ge Priv\u00e9 du Sacr\u00e9-Coeur (Annonay, France), St. Michael\u2019s College School (Toronto, Ontario), St. Thomas High School (Houston, Texas), and Detroit Catholic Central High School (Detroit, Michigan). Archbishop J. Michael Miller, CSB, Archbishop of Vancouver and former Secretary for the Sacred Congregation of Catholic Education at the Vatican, delivered the keynote address on \u2018The Vocation and Mission of the Catholic Educator\u2019.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-12390 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/basilian.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/BNENE-1-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"486\" height=\"324\" srcset=\"https:\/\/basilian.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/BNENE-1-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/basilian.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/BNENE-1.jpg 520w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 486px) 100vw, 486px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><em>Archbishop J. Michael Miller, CSB at the 2015 BNENE Summer Conference in Toronto, Ontario<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The second BNENE Summer Conference was held at Detroit Catholic Central High School in Novi, Michigan The conference explored the theme, &#8220;Religious Dimension of the Catholic School.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-12397 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/basilian.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/IMG_2047-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"463\" height=\"347\" srcset=\"https:\/\/basilian.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/IMG_2047-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/basilian.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/IMG_2047-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/basilian.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/IMG_2047-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/basilian.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/IMG_2047-1536x1152.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/basilian.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/IMG_2047-2048x1536.jpg 2048w, https:\/\/basilian.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/IMG_2047-633x475.jpg 633w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 463px) 100vw, 463px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>The 2017 BNENE Summer Conference in Novi, Michigan.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The year 2024 saw some significant developments for BNENE.\u00a0 The third BNENE Summer Conference (originally scheduled for 2020, but thwarted by the Covid epidemic) was held at the University of St. Thomas in Houston, Texas. Members from St. Thomas High School, Detroit Catholic Central, and St. Michael\u2019s College School were joined by representatives from Detroit Cristo Rey and Aquinas Institute (Rochester, N.Y.).
